It’s Labour Day, and that means summer is nearly over! As somewhat of a last hurrah before fall begins, Picnicon will be holding a small get-together of whomever can come to have a small picnic and photoshoot.

Unlike Picnicon, this will be more loosely organised. Everyone is encouraged to come in costume as we will be having a photoshoot. We will be starting at Victoria Park and moving to other locations, weather permitting.

This …is an OC PICNIC, meaning you must be dressed as an original character! Preferably, your OC should be from something of your own creation. The theme is steampunk, meaning you are encouraged to dress in steampunk fashion but not required.

Brad, the Picnicon photographer, will be there to take photographs. $2 will get you a private photoshoot with him, and will get all of your pictures sent to you by e-mail. This $2 is going to go toward next year’s main Picnicon event. We will also be selling Picnicon buttons for $2 each, and we’ll be accepting contributions to the Official Picnicon 2011 Sunscreen Fund.

We suggest you bring food for yourself as this is a smaller picnic. However, if you want to bring something to share then please feel free! Bonus points if you make gear-shaped cookies!

There is only one rule for the OC picnic: NO MARY-SUES!

Okay so here’s how it goes, for anyone who doesn’t know yet. We all pile into this store; The Last Game Store at Lacewood Terminal, and we play ourselves some games, eat ourselves some food and have a grand ol’ time!

Snacks for sharing are always welcome, cupcakes are the official Anime @ Large meeting food of choice but other stuff is welcome too

In honor of the release of the latest film in the Resident Evil franchise “Afterlife”, this AVM will not be an Anime Viewing Meet but an Awesome Video-gaming Meet.

The theme is Resident Evil/Zombie genre video games/Zombie themed games in general; so please, if anyone owns any Resident Evil video games, zombie video games and/or zombie board/table-top games, and if on top of that, you’re able to attend or (if you cannot attend) are willing to have someone bring your game(s) with them to this event, that would be awesome.

Also, if you could let us know in the comments section of this event page so we have a general idea of how many people are bringing games and who’s bringing what, that would be most appreciated.

If folks would also like to attend in cosplay as zombies or Resident Evil characters, you are very welcome to do so (in fact we encourage it, for we shall bring our cameras for some awesome photo-ops). Lay off on the fake blood though, don’t wanna get it all over everything.

Shoot #8: Hydrostone Market

So here’s how we do this thing. Every month we meet at a different location within the HRM. You can come dressed in cosplay or not, or you can come with a camera or not, it’s your choosing. Once there, those with cameras take pictures of those in cosplay and afterwards, they post them on Facebook.

Once there, the pictures can be voted on. What for you may ask? We’re doing a group calendar for 2011, w00…t! Sound like fun?

Sometime probably late December 2010 we will be putting out the Calendar to be ready for the new year Awesome huh?

Location this month: HYDROSTONE MARKET. We’re meeting on the grassy area in front of the shops. For those of you traveling by bus, you can either catch the “#7 Robie” from Downtown or the “#80 Halifax” from The Village at Bayers Road or Sackville Terminal.

If you think you might be late, we’ll be from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM before we start the shoot. If you’ll be later than that, please contact Marsha or Trevor so we can give you our phone number and so you don’t get lost.

Theme: Summer Shopping!
Time: 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM-ish

The event is open for everyone, cosplayers and photo takers or just the regular joe who wants to exist near awesomely cool people Make sure you come out! the most important thing is to have fun!

RULES:

- Be Prepared for the weather: Umbrella, Jacket, winter coats whatever applies.

- You must always have appropriate footwear! For the weather and the location. You can change out of it for photo’s bring it with you!

- No dangerous or inappropriate poses; keep your cosplay PG and do not hang from Trees.

- Weapons must be replicas made of wood, fiberglass, foam or other non-dangerous material(s). Do not misuse replica weapons or bring real weapons. NO weapons with projectiles of any kind.

- All Pictures for the Calendar Must be Uploaded to the Anime@Large Group Gallery. (Everyone is welcome to take and upload pictures).

- We will only include pictures uploaded between August 29, 4:30 pm and September 5, 11:59 PM in the voting process for August’s Calendar page.

-Only Landscape (wide not tall) style pictures will qualify.

Faith Erin Hicks is a Schuster Award winning comic artist and writer, based right here in Halifax.

She’s published two previous graphic novels, Zombies Calling and The War At Ellsmere, and her work has appeared in Marvel’s Girl Comic, The Coast, The Chronicle Herald and all over the interwebs.

We think she’s pretty much the best thing since Superman.

Her new book, Brain Camp, is a brilliant summer camp horror story. Come get your copy and have it signed by Miss Hicks herself!

Since it rained last Sunday, we’ve moved the shoot to this Saturday. Same location and time, just Saturday the 31st instead of Sunday the before now.
